OUR HISTORY
The Coro Josefino began by bringing together some of its members to sing in the Holy Masses at St. Joseph Spouse of Mary Parish, Gasan Marinduque, in 2003 under the leadership of Fr. Allan Malapad, who was the parish priest at that time. During this time, their group was identified as the St. Joseph Catholic Choir (SJCC). It was not yet an organized group, and they only had the purpose of singing in the Holy Mass to serve based on the demands of the occasion. They also had no mentor and choir director at that time. It was only Fr. Millemar Perin who visited the group to teach them occasionally. Because no one regularly taught them and no one guided them to establish a well-founded choir, its organization did not become stable and resilient. However, in Fr. Eulogio "Jojie" L. Mangui as parish priest in 2009, SJCC was first led by Ms. Rena Ariola, and she became the active group organizer. Fr. Jojie became their temporary mentor, and he was the first to guide them on the art of choral singing. Dr. Rex Emmanuel L. Asuncion, a music professor, also gave his time to be the guest mentor of the group, and he also suggested changing the name of their group to Coro Josefino. Due to Dr. Rex's suggestion, they tried to adopt the term, but it was misspelled as Koro Josefino.
Although this mistake was only a tiny detail, Mr. Dino S. Nepomuceno corrected the term to match it with the correct Spanish words. Coro means choir, and Josefino refers to the parish origin of the choristers. Since the choir members came from the parish of St. Joseph Spouse of Mary, they were called Josefino. In other words, they used the term Coro Josefino to interpret the name St. Joseph Catholic Choir (SJCC) in Spanish and to abbreviate its name into simple terms.
Furthermore, as Coro Josefino continued to grow and develop, in the year 2018, it was formally organized by Mr. Joseph Erwin Go Silangil, a.k.a. Jeff Go, under the guidance of that year’s current parish priest Fr. Rene M. Sapungan. Joseph became the group's Choirmaster, and he organized them in a more orderly, systematic, and stable manner. Due to the existence of a more organized group during the leadership of Fr. Rene, Coro Josefino intensified the provision of quality services by providing proper choral singing in the Holy Eucharist. With the changes that have taken place in the group, Coro Josefino sought to maintain this type of church service, and continue it for future generations. Today, Coro Josefino is actively serving the parish carrying out the mission assigned by the Church to praise God and sanctify the people of God through excellent choral singing.
